Differences Between Andropause and Menopause

Present in both men and women, androgens are the group of hormones responsible for male traits. Testosterone is the most common androgen and is responsible for sex drive, bone mass, muscles mass, fat distribution, sperm production, and more. As men age, the level of testosterone in the body naturally diminishes, which may result in symptoms including low sex drive, erectile dysfunction, mood disorders, problems concentrating, and weight gain.

Andropause refers to the period in a man’s life when testosterone levels drop significantly.

Menopause occurs 12 months after a woman’s final period. During menopause, estrogen and progesterone levels decline, which can result in a number of symptoms including vaginal dryness and hot flashes. Following menopause, women are no longer able to have children.

Similar Symptoms

There are many similarities between the symptoms of andropause and those of menopause. Fatigue, weight gain, brain fog, night sweats, hair loss, and low sex drive are all commonly reported by men and women with declining hormone levels. Mood changes, depression, and “mid-life crisis” are also common in people experiencing andropause and menopause.

Hot flashes can occur during both andropause and menopause as well.

BHRT

Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) has been shown to reduce symptoms of andropause and menopause. BHRT in men often includes testosterone therapy to improve erectile function and address the other issues related to andropause. In women, estrogen or a combination of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone may be useful in reducing symptoms such as hot flashes and low sex drive. Pellecome® offers advanced solutions for the administration of these and other BHRT treatments.

Our patented Re3® Advanced Pellet Delivery System is designed to optimize BHRT pellet delivery while improving patient comfort. Ergonomically designed for easy handling, our system reduces the risk of pellet bunching and helps to prevent serious discomfort, bruising, and other issues that have traditionally accompanied pellet delivery.

The Re3 Advanced Pellet Delivery System helps ensure precise, reliable, and predictable results while reducing risks for infection and promoting patient satisfaction. This device is suitable for use in both medical and aesthetic settings and allows practitioners to provide the safest and most effective BHRT option available today.
