Hormones control much of what happens in our bodies. When they fall out of balance, they cause symptoms that affect us every day. Learning to recognize these signs can help you understand what’s happening in your body and help you find the right support.
Pellecome offers natural treatments to help bring your hormones back into balance. Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) uses hormones similar to those produced naturally by your body to help you manage symptoms in a safe way.
1. Fatigue and Low Energy Levels
One of the most common signs of hormone imbalance is a persistent feeling of tiredness, even after a full night’s sleep. Low levels of certain hormones, such as thyroid hormones or cortisol, can lead to constant fatigue and low energy.1 If you notice that your energy has dropped significantly and doesn’t improve with rest, it might be worth checking your hormone levels.
2. Mood Changes and Irritability
Hormone imbalances can directly impact brain chemistry, influencing emotions and mental clarity. For instance, fluctuating estrogen levels may alter the parts of the brain tied to mood regulation, which can amplify anxiety and depression risks, especially in women.2 Low progesterone or high cortisol can also disrupt mood and lead to feelings of burnout and fatigue. When combined, these shifts can create a cycle of low energy, mood swings, and mental fog.
3. Changes in Weight and Muscle Mass
Gaining or losing weight without changes to diet or exercise could be linked to hormones. Thyroid hormones, insulin, estrogen, and testosterone all play a role in managing weight and muscle mass. Issues with cortisol and leptin, two other important hormones, can also affect your body’s ability to regulate weight, leading to weight gain or making it harder to lose weight.3
4. Sleep Disturbances
Hormonal imbalances can disrupt sleep patterns and cause issues like insomnia, daytime fatigue, or irregular sleep cycles. Fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone, especially around menstrual cycles, menopause, or hormone treatments, have been associated with increased sleep difficulties in women.4 Higher estrogen levels may help you sleep better, while rapid changes in progesterone can disrupt sleep.
5. Changes in Skin and Hair
Hormones also play a big role in your hair and skin health. Androgens, for instance, help turn fine hair into thicker, coarser hair in certain areas. Estrogen also affects your hair’s growth cycle phases, especially during menopause, when lower estrogen levels often lead to hair thinning and drier skin.5 Recent research also shows that hormonal issues, such as thyroid imbalances, can cause noticeable changes in both skin and hair.
